There are unique and beautiful shapes all around you. In these images I liked the graceful sagging weight of the fan palm leaves, the ragged happy shapes of the sunflowers, the sensuality of the capsicum with its smooth flesh and its rough stalk – but my favourite in this group is the oar blades just as they were left on the boathouse jetty. These graceful shapes look to me like a pod of dolphins swimming in harmony if not in unison.
That extraordinary polymath, Buckminster Fuller, once said, “"When I am working on a problem I never think about beauty. I only think about how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.".
Beauty is a by-product of functionality, which is a result of good design. These oar blades are obviously well designed for their purpose. |
